No 003 listed in Playback Engine in PT11
IMac OS X 10.9
QuadCore Intel Core i7 3.5GHz 8GB 2x4GB DDR3 SDRAM 1TB Flash Storage Thunderbolt external hard drive Thunderbolt to firewire to DigiDesign 003 Pro Tools 9 to 11.1.2 upgrade Under Play Back Engine there is no Digi 003 listed. I have installed and uninstalled Pro Tools 11.1.2 several times. I have installed and uninstalled Digi 003 device drivers several times. I can’t get any sound out of Digi 003. I have a M Audio Keystation 88 usb connected to IMac and I get no sound out of it either. I create a new track and import the mini grand into the track and I can play the keys with my mouse and hear it through my IMac speakers, but nothing through the Digi 003 headphones or monitors. Everything worked fine with Pro Tools 9 and my old IMac running snow Leopard. I went through all the “General Troubleshooting” steps for Mac. I have replaced all firewire and thunderbolt cables please help |

Re: No 003 listed in Playback Engine in PT11
Well my bet would b you don't have the right driver or it could be the f/w port on the 003, did u power everything down before replacing cables?

Re: No 003 listed in Playback Engine in PT11
I have loaded every Digi Design 002 - 003 Driver they have online.
I powered everything down when I swapped out cables. Also, my IMac sees the Digi 003. It is listed in components connected to the IMac, but Pro Tools 11 does not see the Digi 003. |

Re: No 003 listed in Playback Engine in PT11
Try holding down the "N" key as you launch Protools. It should bring up the choice to use the 003. You'll only have to do this the first time, not after that. It should from then on show up in the Playback engine.

Re: No 003 listed in Playback Engine in PT11
Don't forget ...
Pro Tools 10 and Pro Tools 11 require DIFFERENT 003 drivers. If you have installed the latest 'Digi 003’ driver that is the one that works with Pro Tools 10, not Pro Tools 11. You need to go here for the drivers ... http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...&q=003+drivers and install 10.3.3 for use with Pro Tools 10 (if you have that installed) and either 11.0 for use with Pro Tools 11 (if using Mountain Lion) or 11.1.2 (if using Mavericks. You need to select the correct driver in each version of Pro Tools for everything to work correctly. The 10.3.3 driver should show up just as '003', in the playback engine selection list, whereas the 11.x driver shows up as 'Avid 003'. In OSX Sound Preferences the two drivers show up as 'Digidesign HW (003)' and 'Avid 003' respectively. The two drivers coexist together on your system happily. Actually, though, I have just discovered what may be a separate issue/problem. I loaded up Pro Tools 10 to check what I said above before posting. I haven't used Pro Tools 10 in a while now, but have installed 10.3.9 I notice that, unlike earlier 10.3.x versions of Pro Tools, only the 11.0 'Avid 003' driver shows up in the playback engine. The 10.3.3 Digi 003 driver, which used to show up just as '003' does not appear. Both drivers do still appear correctly in OSX Sound Preferences. I'll do some testing tomorrow and update here with the results. I don't know whether this means that the 11.0 'Avid 003' driver now also correctly works in Pro Tools 10.3.9 and so Avid have written some code to ignore and not display the 10.3.3 '003' driver. The 11.0 'Avid 003' driver did not work correctly in earlier 10.3.x versions of Pro Tools. Or, it may be that the 11.0 'Avid 003' driver still doesn't work correctly in Pro Tools 10.3.9 AND Avid has somehow broken compatibility with the 10.3.3 '003' driver. Also there may be some other impact from using the 11.1 or 11.1.2 drivers for Mavericks, which I can't test as I'm still on Mountain Lion.

Re: No 003 listed in Playback Engine in PT11
Not sure if this will help but I've had similar problems with my HDX rig. I posted a solution here:
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=356637 Basically try two things (assuming you have the correct drivers and your software is up to date): If you have a monitor plugged into your HDMI port try unplugging it. Secondly, start Pro Tools, leave it open, then restart your computer with Pro Tools still open. Immediately upon startup/login try to open Pro Tools from your dock. Works for me every time, but I use HDX and it might not work since I have never owned a 003. |
