Re: Anyone try the new M-Audio FW Beta Drvrs (10.4.11 - 10.5
I've installed the driver on my new 8-core Mac Pro 2.8Ghz, (OS 10.5.1) running pretty stable (a little better than the old one) with my ProfireLightbridge. However, I can't get audio into the interface anymore - not with Logic 8 nor with Pro Tools 7.4cs3. The audio will always be "stuttering", like a buffer problem or so (no matter what buffer size selected).
I reinstalled the old FW driver and that driver is working fine for me, so I'll skip the new beta driver until they release a final one. Toby |

Re: Anyone try the new M-Audio FW Beta Drvrs (10.4.11 - 10.5
Build 6 so far has been working well with on this intel core duo 2 iMac (2.33Ghz) and projectMix I/O. Noticeably less click and popping at start-up. Smoother transition between external digital and word clock, same for switching between coax and optical spdif connections. Faders and LED display on the PM I/O so are working better than before. No problem with audio out the interface. I have only had it installed for a few days and have done some tracking with it. No gliches at this point.

Re: Anyone try the new M-Audio FW Beta Drvrs (10.4.11 - 10.5
The install of the new beta driver crashed my system. (kernel panic) I did a restart, re-install, followed the directions -- which, ironically come after the install -- i.e. DO NOT ATTACH YOUR FIREWIRE DEVICE UNTIL AFTER INSTALL -- oops.
Corrected it all, everything was fine. There appeared to be actually a few fixes on my G5 that were nice with regards to 7.4 on tiger 10.4.11 -- they included the fact that initially, upon install of 7.4, my firewire device's buffer had to be changed to 48000 from 44100 every time I opened Pro Tools -- which was a pain. Not doing this caused 7.4 to report an error message that audio recording had been disabled. I seemed to be the only one to be able to figure this out -- my changing the buffer, despite my numerous attempts at contacting tech support ( digi design ). The pat response was " that's odd -- that shouldn't be happening" -- duh. The beta corrected that issue. Now, my bigger problem. Its a frustration, really. The TDM section on this site seemed to have a relatively obtuse reaction to individuals that updated to Leopard. Their 8 core 16GB Mac Pro Towers that already support 10.5.1, and the seemingly whimsical nature responding to individuals concerns that Leopard won't work with Pro Tools. "Just use your other studio" or "All 9 of our $35,000 systems are working fine except for a few screen color changes" to me is just a few clicks shy of "let them eat cake". I purchased the latest 2.8 iMac with 4GB of RAM because it was the most I could afford. It came pre installed with Leopard, and I can not partition the disk to run Tiger. I do have 4 computers: 2 of them are aging laptops with limited memory and processing power, the other is just an old G3 that I keep just to run ReBirth for sounds and sound design. I am a musician, and a working one at that. I DO get paid to do what I do. Alas, Pro Tools 7.4 has now been out of my studio set up for several months. Every time I visit the digidesign website to check for an update, all I ever read about is the new M-Box mini, or this new product or that new device. ( which remotely sounds like an individuals comment on THIS site implying that Apple was guilty of spending too much time on the iPhone and not enough time on it's software. ) There is a lot of crap that all of us could throw at anyone of each other. I am really not here to do that or play the victim. I just wanted to express my concerns that talented people with limited resources use Pro Tools also. Some of them know how to use it better than individuals who spent thousands of dollars to get through music school(s). However, we can't use it until it works. It is my hope that someone from the Daly City location will be reading this ( somewhere between the Fudrucker's lunch or the latte from the 1st floor ) and help. People really want to use your software. With such an enviable position, delivery is just as important as reputation. |
