I used that on their free trial basis, and it did seem to work well. I may go with that one. Its a bit pricey though, if remember correctly. Also, it has way more features than I really need, since all I really need to do is transcode. I'm not doing any video editing, nor do I plan to.

Since we aren't rendering the final video tracks, MPEG_Streamclip should be just fine.

I have uploaded this Adobe Media Encoder preset I use to transcode videos I get delivered.

I was very tired of having a very capable system, but still experiencing ****ty video performance. Even when using the "DNxHD" presets. So I just took the time and tried a lot of different combinations. This custom preset, nothing fancy, gives me a crisp and stable image with buttery smooth scrubbing.

Just change the ".pdf" extension to "epr" and use the "preset" import option in Adobe Media Encoder. Then change the framerate to whatever your working on and off you go with transcoding.

Hope it can be useful. I too use MPEG Streamclip, however I have not been successful with exports that are over 25 frames. So now I mostly use the AME.

In PT HD 10.3.10 HD on a Mac...

Ideally "DNX HD 36 1080p” codec is best. By far.....as an Mp4.

second best would be "Apple Pro Res 422 codec” 1080p - as an Mp4.

If an mp4 was made with H.264 that is not good.

H.264 is often very unstable in ProTools. Super crashy.

This I know for sure, based on my experience.
