Default Catalina on Mac Pro 5,1

Has anyone tried it?

Clearly we're entering hackintosh territory here so nothing will be supported BUT I'm interested to see if it works.

I'm kinda liking the look of Pro Tools 2020 but don't want to shell out for a new computer right now.

There's a patcher by DosDude1 that makes it pretty straight forward.

Thoughts?

Pretty much same requirements than Mojave (as in Metal compatile GPU) and obviously the Catalina requirement of 64-bit only software

Thanks JFreak. That makes sense. My 5,1 is already running Mojave very well.

I’m hoping someone out there has done it and is running pro tools!

Obviously Apple may make it hard for someone using unsupported hardware, but it is nothing new. I have installed Mojave for god knows how many unsupported hardware, and granted it is some more work you can build a working configuration even if Apple said no.

Sure.

Let me just state the obvious: unsupported means use at your own risk

ProTools 2020 should still work under OS 10.14,x
Or did I miss something?

I don’t think you missed anything. I’m just intrigued by 64 bit only.

Funnily enough the only app on my entire system that has a 32 bit component is...Pro Tools
