recording on aux input
I have my midi keyboard, audio outputs routed to an auxiliary input. I see a signal, hear it, but when I record, it doesn't record any informtaion on the aux input channel. Is it suppossed to. Would I have to get audio by recording onto an audio channel?
Please explain the use of auxiliary inputs. I need a better understanding. |

Re: recording on aux input
You either need to route the Aux to an Audio track or input straight into an Audio track. Aux tracks are mainly used for routing.

Re: recording on aux input
Aux tracks are good for "monitoring" your keys while recording/editing MIDI tracks. Once you have the MIDI right, You should record to audio track(s). Aux tracks are also great for reverb and echo plugs where you send(aux send to a buss from audio tracks) to an AUX track(set input to same buss), insert reverb plugin. Now you can send (for instance) snare and toms to a single reverb, or 6 vocal tracks to a single verb or delay. Keep at it and it will get clearer as you go.

Re: recording on aux input
Well - to be perfectly clear, Aux tracks are not just for monitoring as they also become part of your final mix when you bounce to disk. The idea is to give you a channel for reverb and plug-in synths to play back without requiring that you commit them to audio regions. Saves you hard disk space and emulates the analog world where you have things like effects returns that are "real-time" in your mix.

Re: recording on aux input
You are correct but I have had occaisonal problems so I just stay clear of it by recording the audio. Still learning after 8 months.
