Default Noob requiring help with guitar tone in pro tools

I recently purchased the m audio fast track usb v2 that comes with pro tools m-powered essentials. As im a student i wanted a small device (not too expensive) that i can record guitars and vocals with. I currently dont have enough money to upgrade to the full version of m-powered which comes with a version of the eleven plug-in, so therefore i am stuck with the sansamp plug-in. If anyone knows any decent settings (or what i should set the conrol knobs to) for a punk rock sound or a metal sound as the pre-sets i have dont sound that great. I f anyone would like to help me out it would be most aprreciated.
Thanks

For $39 you can get Waves GTR Solo, but you need an iLok.

Native Instruments has Guitar Rig 4 Player for FREE, come with a free amp and a few free effects I believe:

IK Multimedia has Amplitube 3 for FREE, comes with some free Amps and effects, and you can purchase other models in single or package

cheers for those links, ive got amplitube 2 but sadly i cant use it as im running m-powered essentials which doesnt allow for 3rd party plugins. im trying to save up enough cash to pay for the upgrade to the full version of m-powered 8 (which allows 3rd party plugins) and an ilock. id assume its guna be the same problem with them. Unless you know of a way that i can trick m-powered essentials into allowing me to use 3rd party plugins/programs

You will probably get better results using another DAW like Reaper until you get the cash flow to update to Pro Tools 9, I would forget about M-Powered, get the full version of PT9

You download Reaper for free and use it for 30 days, although I think it is still functional after 30 days, not sure cause I paid for it.

If you buy it, its like $40

you can use VST plugins in Reaper, including the free ones I mentioned.

No doubt that PT is the better DAW IMO, but Reaper can be useful through Rewire into Pro Tools or to use Standalone when you dont have an interface and dont want to carry an iLok around.
