Default where\'s the reverb?

Will there be a reverb plug-in for PTF released soon?

Well, I wouldn't say soon, unless a third-party developer has one waiting in the wings. There are a couple of versions of Digidesign D-Verb that are compatible now for windows:
The AudioSuite-only version that comes with the D-fx bundle and the full D-Verb plug-in that includes AudioSuite, RTAS and TDM versions.
Admittedly, at $495 list, the full D-Verb package is a little steep for use with a free product, especially if you don't need the TDM version. The $249 list D-fx bundle would be a better option, including Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, Multi-Tap Delay, and Ping-Pong Delay, but it is AudioSuite only, not RTAS.

We realize that there is a need and a market here for Digidesign and/or our Digidesign Development Partners to develop a low-cost lite reverb product to fill this need. In the marketplace, demand usually generates supply. although I can't say how or when that will shake out.

At present, though, some alternatives are:
1- D-Verb in one of the versions mentioned above.
2- Outboard reverb hardware.
3- Process your individual audio tracks or final mix in a different audio application that includes a built in reverb effect or plug-in, or with a third-party plug-in used with another application.

I gave you a rather lengthy answer to a short question, because I think a lot of people are curious about this subject.

Why doesn't Digidesign just release a reverb, ANY reverb, with the second version of PTF?

We can't very well include everything that people want. It is after all a free program, with a lot of features already included. There are a lot of features from our other systems that are not included. At this time, reverb is one of those. This is not that unusual, there are other audio programs that don't include a reverb plug-in with their demo versions, or don't let you save, or time out, etc.

Since we're allowed only two outputs at a time, how do you suggest we use an outboard reverb?

Your reply said you couldn't very well include everything people want, but don't you think reverb is a little more desirable than say, dither or 2 different EQ's?

What is the reason for leaving out something as important as reverb?

Even Pro Tools LE paid version doesn't include any effects.
Except those (DigiRack - Compressor, EQ, dither etc...).
Even TDM exclude any ture plug.
However, The concept digi made is like that (Even Free isn't included it would be nicer to include it on the list):
- PT Free = Paid nothing get simple plugins
- PT LE = Paid a bit they throw free D-Verb release.
- PT TDM MIX - They'll add 3 plugins if I remember.
- PT TDMMixPlus - Now you get 5.
The more you spend the more plugins you get.
Just ask yourself how many plugins on DirectX or VST got
A. quality B. RTAS (During record with low latency using Digi Hardware or lower than 256 Buffer).
C. FULL Autmation.
That's my reason to dump Cakewalk or anyother tool other there...
PT is easier, simplier more common (standard) and got true RealTime.
I use AM3 with PT LE.

So you actually buy the paid version. (isn't it freaking obvious?)

Don't mean to insult you there, but except for Bomb Factory, I hardly can find any PC RTAS plug-ins that can rival w/ the numerous top DX plug-ins.

Waves Gold Bundle (hint, good enough for TDM), Sonic Timeworks, TC, Apogee Dithering all come in VST and or DX. TDM systems have quite a few nice plug-ins, but chances are that your best (only) RTAS reverb is far behind, say, the worst of my best DX reverb (TC).

As for latency, w/ ASIO2 and the proper configuration, this is not an issue. And automation is around the corner w/ DX8. Not an issue w/ VST.

I think compatibility w/ native standards could be a nice addition to PTLE. At least w/ for the time being. I still prefer being able to use my C4 or Renaissance EQ on playback than to ear my guitar processed w/ a so-so quality EQ while recording.

With only 2 outputs it is admittedly a bit more tricky to use outboard gear, but it can be done. Instead of using the 2 outputs as main L/R, you would have to use one or both outputs as "sends" to a reverb box, then take the outputs of the reverb back to the sound card's inputs (L/R). The main mix can't be monitored if you are using stereo sends to the reverb, or it must be monitored in mono (if using one output as a send to the reverb).
