I would recommend using 2 pencil condensers as a stereo angled off-axis towards the sound hole and the middle of the fretboard, if it has a good acoustic sound to it. If you mic a cab as well and have both to mix with, that should sound pretty big and nice.

Guitar cabs do not reproduce an acoustic sound acurately!!! You might try it for effect like Renuir suggested. But get yourself a schoepps 221b for the ultimate acoustic sound, then you can screw wit it if you want to.

so are you saying I should not go through the penta premamp instead? If going through the cab sounds so bad.

Also, I am not familiar with the product (schoepps 221b's )you desribed. What does it do?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm sorry but I don't understand the Q. Go with the Avalon 2022, But if your using all three of your 2022's to mic other instruments go with your penta.
P.S. I didn't say that the cab will sound "bad" I just said that it will not be accurate. Experiment my freind.

apaulos,

your confusin' the hell out of me. I don't have other instruments because everything else; keyboard synth, drum machines, etc are going through a line input.

I don't want a synth guitar on this new song. I want a real guitar, but it does not have to sound like soft jazz, or jewel. More like sampled liks. So my question is:

Should I just plug my electric guitar into my focusrite penta and play it clean into ptle OR should I mic my guitar cabinet and record acoustic through there?

I should apollogize for my haste, and the confusing 2022 joke.
My favorite acoustic sounds(be it Mobb Deep or Jewel) are acheived by using a Schoepps 221b and an Avalon 2022 or Millenia Media HV3b pre amp.
NOT DIRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But if recording direct is your only choice, eh, I really don't have any good advice for recording Acoustic direct. To tell the truth I can't think of a single reason to do so other than multing(mixing a condenser, ribbon, or even a good dynamic mic with the direct feed) Please experiment with using a condenser for your main sound, Then compare that to your direct signals. It should be an eye opener

Default What is the best way to record acoustic guitar for hip hop?

I have a Takamine acoustic electric guitar and I want to record some acoustic guitar work for hip hop prductions. I have a Fender tweed tube amp (4 tens) and here is my question:

Should I mic the cab and record that way or should I go through my penta with compression for that sound.

It is for hiphop so I doesn't have to be clean like a rock song with acoustics but I do want a great sound. Think the strumming and guitar work like neptunes.

All advice is welcome.
