Default Drive Partition

My pro tools PC is currently offline and has never been connected to the internet for performance and clutter reasons (updates ect are downloaded from a differfent computer)

Im thinking of connecting it to the net to quicken the update process and to possiblly install a few games as i miss being able to play my PC baised computer games but I never intended to conect it to the net and i would really like to keep it that way.

however would creating a partition on the OS drive and installing the net + games ect on that side make a difference?

Cheers.

Your best bet would be to install a separate physical hard drive and boot from that for gaming.

My PT rig has two hardware profiles, one for just music production, network disabled, the other network enabled to download music production related files.
I try to keep my rig as clean as possible.

I would be careful to install games, as
1. some of the copy protection is down at the system level which may cause conflicts with PT
2. some of the game files may also alter some system files, which again may cause trouble

Just some food for thought, I personally have no experience installing games on my PT computer!

Aaron, be careful when updating that you do not run into required system specifications that render Windows Hardware Profiles unsupported.

Doing a dual boot will be best for you. YOu can either do it on the same HDD, or one two different HDD. Yes you will always see the boot selection screen after the bios loaded. But this way, you can have two completely independent system working. One that is configured for PT and the vst's and other gear you are using to record. One for your normal use. ON the normal use you can have access to the internet and have your AV installed on that one, while on the PT boot, you can forgo the installation of the AV, disable the network card etc etc etc.

I myself do a lot of gaming, when I'm not working, and this is the best way to actually and efficiently set up your computer to do both, if you only have one computer. Due to it being two OS, you will be able to configure them independently for the hardware you are using. Ie video cards, sound cards, network cards.. etc etc etc.

Sounds great so far!

So, to recap:

1 HD for recording
1 HD for A/V stuff and the net

I just plug em both in and just boot from one or the other as and when required?

I also have a HD that i read/write to and from when recording, Can i leave this HD on in either case?
