Re: New PC and PT 8 M-powered
What ever you do please...... do not get a DeLL.
unless you are planning on having nightmares. And I am not talking about PT. I am talking about DeLL itself. I used to own several kinds of DeLL computers, and I swore to god I would never buy another. With the stuff you was recommended, get that, because in the future you can update it. DeLL you can not update it, I know, ive been through it. And the little parts that you can, like memory will cost you an arm and a leg for the parts. Unlike the custom PC where you can buy the parts at Newegg.com for a fraction of the price. And don't forget to buy a couple of 1-TB Hardrives for backing up Protools and Audio files as well as Loops and fun stuff like that. .

Re: New PC and PT 8 M-powered
I agree.
Self-built PCs are cheaper, faster, and more reliable in every way. I would add to your list : 1. a quiet fanless video card (256 or 512Mb memory is fine); and 2. as many of those WD VelociRaptors as you can afford - I have three in my system and they are incredible for music! By the way, on your list - a 1TB SSD ?? Seriously? I didn't think SSD's came in that size - nor did I realise they span at 7200rpm .

WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Black 1TB SATAII 7200RPM 32MB Ok, I’m convinced, no Dell, I promise. But yes, I need video card, and maybe two of them, because I’m planning to use 4 monitors and do I find a video card with 4 outputs? I also forgot about main board, is this ok? : GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P, X58, Socket 1366, DDR3, FireWire, S/PDIF, Audio, Gb LAN And if I choose this mainboard, how many WD VelociRaptors can I hook up to it? # of VelociRaptors, with your Caviar Black and an optical drive - should be able to have 4 at least! 4 monitors ?!?!?! sheesh! 2 video cards with 2 outputs would do the job (I think they're all two outputs now) The motherboard you've specified doesn't have SATA 6Gb/s or USB3. There are boards in that same range that do : http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...pe=socket+1366 Look at the GA-X58's - compare the specs on those to the GA-EX58 you've specified. .

Re: New PC and PT 8 M-powered
I would seriously also advise you to get the ATI Radeon 5700 series.
and also make sure its by the company "DIAMOND" they have awesome support. Some people complain about their support, but its because they call the wrong number. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-086-_-Product Quote:
you would have a MONSTER Machine there. Also, (If you can afford it) I would suggest 30 inch monitors, unless your planning to strain your eyes with little monitors. I have done this, and enjoying every minute of it.

Re: New PC and PT 8 M-powered
I already have 4 22 inch Samsungs I was planning to use.
But regarding the video cards you mention, does PT og W7 gain anything with a “heavy duty” video card or is it just a general suggestion. (just wondering) A friend told me that the WD VelociRaptors make a lot noise, what do you think about that? D |

Having said that, if you tune your system correctly you shouldn't have any issues. Quote:
I have a Raptor in the internet PC, and yes, it is noisy. The VelociRaptor is one of the quietest drives I've ever used, largely due to it being a 2.5inch drive, not a "full-size" drive. It's important to note that, although many people go for the Caviar Black (for the sustained read/write performance and large capacity), the VelociRaptor has access times that are unmatched - only beaten by SSD's. This is important for music making, when you consider that access time has everything to do with how quickly the drive can get to your audio files when working on a session. Believe me - you'll be happy with the VelociRaptors. .
