Default Playback Engine Setup

Probably a real simple answer, but I can't see why I'm not getting all the DSP options in my payback settings.
At 44.1 I get 1 DSP __ voices, 2DSP...4 DSP, 192 voices.
At 88.2 I get 1 DSP __ voices,... 4DSP 96 voices.

Running HD6 v7.3.1cs7 on Mac Pro and it's been a while since I had to adjust the playback engine, but I thought it wasn't till 192K when timing cause the limitations of 4 DSP.
Shouldn't I have the option at 88.2kHz of 6 DSP and 192 voices?

I ran the PT Pref & Database Helper, deleted DigiSetup, DAE Prefs, PT prefs, .plist, database folders, and volume folders. Then opened new session at 44.1 and 88.2 but again was only given 4 DSP settings. I switched the session I was working on to 44.1 to get more voices, but I should be able to have 192 voices at 88.2, no?

No, 88.2 cut voice count by half
192 cut to a quarter

Yes, with the same DSP setting, but "6 DSP" should be available and that is not appearing in my Playback Engine Settings. That is the problem. If I can figure out why I'm only showing options up to 4 DSP, then I can get the 6 DSP setting back and bump up the voice count.

And I did check system usage and all cards are showing up on my HD6 system

OK, so checking both HD6 systems I get the same voice options. Here's what I was trying to decipher on an 88.1 session:
on the HD6, Number of Voices:
24 Voices (1 DSP)
48 Voices (2 DSPs)
72 Voices (3 DSPs)
96 Voices (4 DSPs)

on a smaller HD3 rig with no expansion chassis; the Number of Voices:
8 Voices (1 DSP)
16 Voices (1 DSP)
24 Voices (1 DSP)
-----
16 Voices (2 DSPs)
32 Voices (2 DSPs)
48 Voices (2 DSPs)
-----
24 Voices (3 DSPs)
48 Voices (3 DSPs)
-----
32 Voices (4 DSPs)
64 Voices (4 DSPs)
-----
40 Voices (5 DSPs)
80 Voices (5 DSPs)
-----
48 Voices (6 DSPs)
96 Voices (6 DSPs)

So, anyone know why the smaller system has all those options? (I do understand the reason for 48 voices with 2DSP against 48 voices with 3 DSP...)

I don't know why all those options are removed on a larger system. Is it becase there's no need to spread the voices out to 6DSP since I have so many cards on an HD6 system?

So I guess it's just magic that the options are reduced since nobody can answer the question posed?

Hi,

Do you have an older 32 bit chassis? i think its only the Magma PE6R4 64 bit chassis that will give you the full track count at frequencies above 48k.

No, I have Digi's Expansion|HD. I used to have that older Magma you described which gave me HD7s, but upgrading to the Mac Pro in Jan '07 I had to move to the Digi chassis which knocked the systems down to HD6's.
I am getting the 96 voices with 4DSPs at 96kHz, I just don't know why I do not have the "DSP-Voice" options I described above which show up when choosing your voice count on an HD3.

OK, the Magma PE6R4 (PCIe in computer to PCIx in chassis) 64 bit chassis is the latest 6 slot chassis and the only one to give the same performance as running PCI cards in the box.

So i suspect you are running a 32 bit chassis which doesn't have the ability to stream that amount of data to and from the cards to give the bigger track counts at high frequencies.

Thanks. I can't find any information on Digi's site about the Digi Expansion|HD other than it's system requirements PT 7.2.1, ...(http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...4&itemid=23030). Which sucks, as I went from a Magma PE7R4 to this Digi HD chassis cause the 64-bit PE7R4 wasn't ready for a PCIe host and now I can't get any info about this Digi HD chassis. I can't see them putting out a 32bit chassis, but even in the system guide it has a whole chapter about installing the Expansion|HD chassis, but not a mention about it's bit rate (http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor..._v73_32961.pdf). Oh well.

Thanks again
