I completely agree. S6 should be a dedicated Pro Tools Controller first with the ability to control other DAW's via Eucon. I really liked the MC Pro because the buttons on it could switch labels with the change of controllers. Wonder why Avid moved away from that?

Avid has given several indications that you will be able to buy a single module to build an M-40-based control surface, including this:

S6 Automation Module—This master module is included in all pre-configured systems, but is an optional add when building your own S6 M40-based surface (though you’d probably want one).

It would really be nice if Avid would provide pricing for each component in an S6 system, especially pricing for the Producer's Desk, Frames, and accessories. It appears that some of the pricing is ridiculously high, and Avid might want to consider lowering some of the prices.

We shall see...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

I think people are really getting caught up in late '90s DAW concepts.

The future is networked audio where every mike preamp includes an A to D converter that feeds a router. The audio becomes available to multiple recording, broadcast and live systems throughout a facility or even the world. Broadcast and live are already well on their way in this direction.

Controllers will take on many different roles in this networked world so a totally modular Eucon system is the only thing that makes any sense as an investment for the future. While it obviously can be configured to replace an Icon, it undoubtedly can also be configured for a great many other applications both larger and smaller and people will even be moving modules around depending on what's required on a given day.

I'm trying to understand how this can be applied to feature film mixing? So far, I wasn't able to conclude S6 will be able to replace Icon, because it lacks certain hardware to do so. I admit my point of view is a bit narrow, though - I mix feature films.

I suspect what we've seen so far is merely the beginning of a system rather than a finished, stand-alone product or Icon replacement in the conventional sense.
