Audiophile 192 to Firewire 2496 on same iLok?
I'm looking to go from an Audiophile 192 PCI card to a Firewire 2496 to swap between my desktop and laptop. Is my iLok going to explode, or is this kosher?

Re: Audiophile 192 to Firewire 2496 on same iLok?
It's what the ilok was designed to do.

Well yeah, but is it what Protools M-Powered was designed to do? The iLok could easily have info about the host computer and interface as part of its registration "assets", and Digidesign hasn't supported swapping interfaces and computers in the past.

The ilok stores only licenses. It doesn't really have the capacity for much else.
I do it all the time with the MPowered license going from desktop with ozonic to laptop with transit to desktop with transit to laptop with ozonic to desktop with 002r (ilok has other plugin licenses on it...), etc etc No worries

Re: Audiophile 192 to Firewire 2496 on same iLok?
I ended up getting a FastTrack Pro, since I can bus-power it on my laptop, and I'm not interested in 96kHz support. Interestingly enough, it does support 4x2 24/48 operation, contrary to the published specs, which only say 2x4. That would have been a deal-breaker for me.
Interesting what isn't included in the box though: - no external power supply - no vertical stand mount (rails on side of unit accommodate them) So far I don't mind, I don't need them and I'm glad to not have to pay for them. However the package did include: - a warning that the unit "contains chemicals, including lead, known to the State of California to cause [cancer, and] birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling." That's just a little freaky. What's stranger is that I'm in Canada, no way that California law requires such a warning for exported products, especially those made in China. I bet this unit never even set foot on American soil, but maybe the printed material is from the US... |
