Default Multi outputs for Logic or DP using PT HD

We are still using G5's running PT HD 8.01. I have several clients that have been working out of our studio using either Logic or Digital Performer and utilizing as many as 88 outputs from our 192s to mix in one of our SSL consoles. If I'm not mistaken, this ability has been removed in newer versions of Pro Tools. If so, is it back in PT9 or is there some other method for achieving this? If there isn't, doesn't it seem strange that Avid would throw away all the hardware sales they would keep making when people use their hardware and someone else's software? I may be forced to switch to an Apogee Symphony system just to keep the customer happy......

This is quoted from the Avid Audio Forums: "Avid has no plans for continued third party DAE support or qualification with and beyond Pro Tools 8.0.3 software". I now have responses that conflict with this. Is there anyone at Avid that can solve this?
