Default PT 2018 on unsupported MacBook Pro (early 2011)

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,3, last officially supported by PT 11) that is still going strong. I'm at a juncture where I need to upgrade PT soon.

Will the 2018 installer even run on my computer? I'm inclined to think it will (and that PT will actually work OK), based on this thread: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=399305.

Yes, I understand the support ramifications. Buying a new computer is not an option for me right now.

Thanks!

I have a 2011 MBP running Sierra and 2018 installed. Haven't tried to run it yet. It could stand a RAM upgrade as well.

I have the same computer. Upgraded ram to 16 GB (Yes. It will go to 16!)
Have been running the latest PT 2018.7 on High Sierra with no problems at all. Replacing the spinner with an SSD startup drive boosts performance of this machine in a really BIG way.

That's great news! Yep, got 16 GB RAM and SSD as well. The plan is to install PT to High Sierra (currently on 10.13.2). My first concern was the installer (if there is one) refusing to install to an unsupported machine, but it sounds like that's not the case and that PT will also run smoothly (hopefully). Thanks!

I upgraded my RAM to 16 GB yesterday and Ultimate opened pretty good sized sessions and all played back. Had to up the buffer compared to my dual proc Mac Pro cheesegrater but its working.
