Default Lacie Esata to Thunderbolt Hub Now Shipping

This may be useful to a lot of people who have drives with Esata ports on them, like the OWC or Glyph "quad" interface drives, who also have the newer Macs with Thunderbolt on them.

This was announced a while back but is now officially shipping, according to the official press release, both through Lacie and through it's dealers (though so far I don't see it in stock anywhere. Hopefully in the next week or so).

It's $199, plus you need the $50 Apple Thunderbolt cable. It includes 2 Esata ports, and 2 Thunderbolt ports to allow daisy chaining, either more of these, or other Thunderbolt devices.

This will allow the full speed of Esata to come through, which is way faster than firewire or USB, and even somewhat faster than Express Card Esata adapters.

In addition to much higher speed and bandwidth, this will also be useful for getting your drives on a different buss than either your firewire or USB (for those who are presently daisy chaining), which should improve performance even more.

While it seems a little expensive for what it is, it may be worth it for some people until we see more affordable actual Thunderbolt drives available.

It's also cheaper, simpler, and faster than using Sonnet's Express card/Thunderbolt adapter, which involves that unit, plus another adapter, plus the cable, just to use Esata.
