Default Magma Chassis For 7 DSP Cards ?

Hi everyone,

As you all know tdm rigs can handle up to 7 dsp cards.

I'm having real hard times to find a Magma chassis référence (or Digidesign labelled chassis) that can handle 7 PCIX dsp cards and that has a PCI Express host card

Do you have any clues ?

There is a Magma Expansion Chassis with 7 PCIe Slots. It's not sold anymore. You could dig in the legacy pages of Magma to find it and then search eBay or the usual suspects selling used audio gear for that Magma model.

Oh I don't remember... Maybe you can just ask them or find the Avid pages which list the compatible chassis for older Pro Tools TDM systems.

I've got a 6-slot Magma with an HD5 Accel in it (#6 slot refuses to cooperate) and that's a bad-ass system for tracking using 192s and Apogee AD16/DA16s with the XHD cards. I found my chassis on eBay last year with a PCIe controller card and cables for about $350. Using it with a 2008 Mac Pro 3.1/3.2GHz 8-core/32Gb RAM/Mountain Lion/Pro Tools HD 10.8.3. If you can't find a 7-slot the PE6R4 PCI-x chassis like mine will do it. For mixing I'd lean towards something more modern, not saying you can't but........

Good luck!

Hi,

The 7 slot chassis adds latency, where as the PE6R4 doesn't. I had one years ago and from memory i had to run the buffer at 512 for stability
