Default Only first connected interface working - please help ! ;)

Oh dear, my mix4 rig is being very strange...i have tried various combinations of 882/20 interfaces & adat bridge...& whichever way i connect them up, protools refuses to send or receive signals from anything other than the interface connected to the mix core card.

I think i've tried everything now, & have a test setup which is just two 882/20 units, one connected to the mix core, & one to the first mix farm card.

Protools sees both of them just fine in the hardware setup....& the 2nd unit is workclock slaved to the first, & locks up.

However, routing signals to or from the 2nd interface simply doesn't work.

I've run the 'digitest' utility, & all my cards are 100% working....& i've swapped the cables & intefaces around...everthing works...but only if connected to the channels 1-8 (the mix core card)

I've sat up half the night trying to fix this...(have dumped prefs too in case it helped)....anyone know any last minute tricks to save my session today?

xx

Hello,

Sorry i haven't got the exact answer! but all i can think of is this....

Trash ALL the prefs! Yes that old chestnut, but this is very important to get right, so double check you trashed all prefs and try this facility...

http://web.mac.com/jcdeshaies/iWeb/D...Bienvenue.html

Now make sure to delete your Hardware setup and completely re-bulid it!

and delete your I/O setup paths, inputs/outputs/inserts etc and re-build them!

The only other thing that comes to mind is the flexi cable that connects between the core card and the farm card! is this cable ok? try cleaning the contacts and make sure its pushed fully home etc.

Last thing to check is the clocking! all cables ok? and connected in the right order??

Good luck

Chris

Chris, many thanks for replying...ok, i've used the little utility to trash prefs...i've even swapped a couple of the mix farm cards around, & reseated the flexi cable...rebooted...reselected a pair of 882/20's.....first one clocked internally....2nd one slaved......still no i/o from card/interface 2....looking in my system usage, PT sees all 4 cards fine....& if i swap 882/20's & cables around, the swapped one will work, & the one that was working goes silent.......any more ideas?

xx

Re-install Pro tools? not as bad as it seems, but something might be missing from the program or gotten corrup, so using your web install or CD installer!! on install select custom and choose uninstall and use the clean uninstall option (you could try the safe uninstall option first!??) then re-boot the mac and then re-install again and see what happens. clean uninstall will remove all PT and Digi files but should leave third party plugs as they are etc.

So, you,ve tried different farm cards and different flexi cables etc?? it has to be software then? if you have checked all physical reasons and double checked with 2 of everything, there's nothing much left!!

Are your cards in the right order in the computer? I've had this problem and it's usually a loose cable or something simple. Start isolating the cables. Try hooking up the interface that works with different cables each time. Also, sometimes the cables will actually go in upside down. Make sure they are connected correctly.

Thanks for that that replied...i finally tracked down the problems (after 4 days!)...but i had to hire someone to come round & show me...basicly...i has two 882/20 interfaces connected thus:

Core Card: 882/30 #1
Mix Farm1: 882/20 #2

But for some unexplained reason, protools *assumed* that i had both interfaces connected via a 'y-cable' to, the core card...thus the 2nd interface was never working.

So on a brand new session, after trashing all prefs..would PT just assume that i was using a Y-cable?...ah well...one to put down to experience..
