Default How do you remove the control 24 arm rest?

My control 24 has been in storage and upon reviving it the arm rest has become a sticky mess. I've searched the forum and discovered that Digi will sell a new one for a $150.00.
But I never liked that arm rest anyway.
So can I just take it off, recover it with something cushy and attach it back?
I took off a half dozen screws on the bottom, but that doesn't do it.
It's gotta come off some how doesn't it?
