Anyone using a Mojo DX with Protools 11 or 12?
Just wondering if any users here have incorporated a Mojo or Nitris DX as their video peripheral in ProTools 11 or 12?
Just wondering what they are experiencing with the video engine? Is it solid? Let us know! Thanks Ray |

I want to know the same thing. Is mojo dx better than black magic?

Re: Anyone using a Mojo DX with Protools 11 or 12?
I am asking as I am staying on Mac OS X 10.8.5 for compatibility with PT10 but Blackmagic recently informed me that PT12 is not qualified with the latest version of Desktop Video drivers and indeed they would not support an earlier OS like 10.8.5 as it is not a current OS.
But AVID have qualified 10.8.5 as compatible with PT12…. It's a wee gotcha eh? No wonder we're having interesting things happening with the AVE and PT12 and Blackmagic. So I take it that AVID's own hardware must be qualified for my setup? One would hope it goes better than what I am experiencing at the moment. |

Re: Anyone using a Mojo DX with Protools 11 or 12?
MojoDX and NitrisDX use the same DX driver and should be interchangeable. MojoDX runs on my Win7 PT11.3.1 HDX system very, very well and has been for nearly two years since we assembled the system with 11.0. Avid Video Engine is not perfect (not every codec is supported, an occasional operating hickup) but MojoDX has been totally solid and the system is very snappy. If a movie is playable by AVE (which most are) it will play through MojoDX full screen and with predictable sync. Brandon, I think you would be happy with it.
Ray, I ran NitrisDX on my Mac mix rig for several days earlier this year, when it was 10.8.5 and PT 11.x (not sure if it was 11.2 or 11.3 at that point). It was snappy and a little faster to edit on than my usual Media Composer satellite setup, but not as fleet-footed as with desktop video. Still, I had no problems at all. Because I used it that way for only a few days I cannot say it is rock solid, but within my limited experience it was! The mix rig is now 10.10.3 and PT12.1. I want to put Nitris on it again for a few days, as soon as the work flow allows. The other day I noticed video playback in PT12 had broken while the MC satellite continued to work. Whether that was a fluke or an instability, I don't yet know. I do not regret spending a little more for Avid interfaces because I have had absolutely no problems with them. My systems have been reliable during the past years when others have been screaming about third party interface problems. Last edited by Postman; 08-11-2015 at 10:44 AM. Reason: osx 10.10.3, not .4 |

Thanks Postman for the detailed reply. It seems time for me to hang up the blackmagic hardware. Too many problems with such a simple concept that we should be able to take for granted:- Pictures playback in sync every play pass with no stutters or freezes!

Re: Anyone using a Mojo DX with Protools 11 or 12?
Yeah but I've still got a 5,1 Westmere Mac pro and access to a Mojo DX. The Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 3D takes 2 slots of space including the daughter HDMI card , so room for a Mojo DX.
I figure it will probably be "supported" for at least a generation of ProTools though I've been wrong before.... Like assuming that the current "supported" 3rd party picture cards would actually work in PT12.1 .....miaow! Last edited by Ray JB; 08-11-2015 at 09:34 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: Anyone using a Mojo DX with Protools 11 or 12?
DX hardware is EOL now, supported through March 2020. Still available for sale, apparently, and probably soon to be discounted on eBay. EOL is not surprising now that 4k is all the rage. Artist DNxIO is the replacement. You may not be pleased to learn who Avid partnered with for DNxIO. Blackmagic.

Postman, I am curious how the Mojo DX and Nitris DX connects to your Pro Tools tower? are there drivers or firmware that need to be installed?
