Default VI's stop playing audio suddenly

I am working in a new room with a Mac dual quad core. PT HD3. I am trying to add MIDI tracks. No matter how simple the mix, even a "New" mix, when I begin to record MIDI, the audio just stops. It plays fine for about 10 seconds if I reboot or restart ProTools even. Almost all of the Virtual Instruments do it, but it happens quicker with piano.

When the audio stops, I can still see MIDI recording (meters jumping, edit window regions getting notes, etc. I just hear zero audio from the instrument. The playback won't work either. I can reboot and teh track will playback for a bit and then go silent again.

Please HELP! I have never run into anything like this and I have much work to do. I've worked all day without getting a single song completed.

MANY THANKS!

Ken

I would try trashing preferences , com.apple.ausio.AudioMoIDISetup.plist, DAE preferences, and maybe DigiSetup.OSX

Thanks for the response! I actually tried that. I ended up turning off some of the MIDI recording parameters and am making it work now. Best!
