Does HD IO Include PTHD 11?

If I purchase (from auth dealer) a new Avid HD i/o 16X16 do I receive PT HD 11 upgrade for free? I'm currently using PT HD 8.1.
If I do not get free upgrade to 11, what do I need to do to upgrade?

No free upgrade with a purchase of an IO box. You get software when you buy a card(either HD/Native or HDX) but these are generally ONLY available in a complete package(card/software and IO box). Check with a good Avid retailer as I think, being an HD owner, you can do a straight upgrade purchase(but make sure your old system can handle the new software and hardware).

More to consider: buying 11, also gets you 10, which DOES work with older HD cards, as well as HDN and HDX cards.

However, as an HD8 owner, you can not upgrade to HD11, only HD10 for $1500, and this does not come with HD11.

If you want HD11, you can trade in your HD system cards to HDX. Alternatively, you can buy an HD Native system and then sell your HD TDM system.


If you're just buying an HD IO only, you will just get the interface and that's it. Note that there is also a trade in offer for an older blue interface (192, 96io, etc.) to a new HD IO, and that trade in gets you $1000 off.
