Unhappy Re: OS9 Dual G4 1.25 Digi001

Hi there,
can anyone help me, I am perservering using an old version of Cubase and other OS9 music software, I bought 2 MDD G4s which I thought was a good idea, the first one didn't run OS9 at all and the second multi proc model finally got it running but no audio. I think I have all the right versions of the critical software but still no audio, in fact, I can't even get a beep or a quack out of it!

We need more details. What version of pt, and what Cards and interfaces are you running.

Hi there,
i am having a similar problem, I have a fully working version of 9.2.2 but no sound at all, I'm pretty sure I have all the critical extensions to the correct versions for a MDD but still no audio control in OS9, only in OS-X.

You do have Os9 on a separate drive from OSX and you're actually booting from it, right? If you are running in "classic" mode that's your problem. If not, where did the version of os9 you're running come from? All of the retail versions of 9.2.2 will not work with mdd G4s, the only one that works is OS9 General - it is hidden on one of the 4 discs that originally shipped with the G4.

Yes I have 2 IDE drives that can boot 9.2.2, I got it off a G4 install disk and then made sure all my ROM & Extensions were the same versions as others were using to overcome the Texas Instruments problem, but no luck so far. My Cubase VST is not a happy chappy.

[QUOTE=John_Toolbox;1865232]We need more details. What version of pt, and what Cards and interfaces are you running.

What is 'pt'?
I have an Adaptec Ultra SCSI card 2940
Echo Event Gina 20
USB 2.0 card
SCSI card works in this G4 well with 3 HDDs that I have, but I want to just run the 2 IDE eventually and maybe 2 more, coz it can fit 4 drives easily, but not the SCSI drives with adapters.

I took all the good stuff out of the other G4 (1GHZ MDD), not sure if its worth anything with no drives and low RAM?

I always liked OS9 and want to keep using it.

PT = pro tools.

Are you sure this os9 came with an mdd g4? It is on a gray disc that says system restore, for 10.2.x? (can't remember what version of osx came on mdd g4s). You have to have osx installed first to install os9 general.

Save the power supply for a spare, the rest of it you might be able to sell on eBay. Probably not worth a lot, but the motherboard and CPU might be worth something. Power supply and motherboard are the two most common failures on these.

The grey OS9 disc I have is for some other G4 and is from 2006. I installed it and then found the right ROM and sound extensions and at least it functioned. I also have a white OS9.2.1 CD which doesn't work, and a downloaded 9.2.2 ISO which is meant to be for MDD and doesn't work either. Never thought it would be so hard to get a Mac functioning the way I need it to.

It's not from a G4 if it's from 2006. The last version of the G4's were the mdd G4's that shipped in 2003. This must be a G5 disc, they could run os9 in classic mode, so because it's a classic mode version that's why half of the stuff isn't working.

The white disc is a retail disc, none of the retail os9 discs had the right drivers for mdd G4s.
