Default Problem Solved Re:Can not Start Pro Tools

Everything was working fine when I shut down last night. I have not added or changed anything.

Here's the error I'm getting when trying to launch ProTools :
" Could not complete your request because: Assertion in "Sys_FileLoc.cpp, Line 57 ."

Can someone pls help remedy this [bleep] so that I can get some work done? thanks.

Hi,
Try trashing your preferences, Go to Users > “your user name” > Library > Preferences and trash DAE Prefs, DigiSetup.OSX, Pro Tools 6.x prefs, "com.digidesign.protools.plist" and "com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist". Trash all of the Digidesign Databases folders on the root of every mounted drive.
restart and run repair disk permissions on your system drive.

Thanks,

I see this folder on the Mac HD and on the Lacie. Does it appear elsewhere?
Also please explain where is the Run Repair Disc Permissions?
thank you.

Click on OS X/Pro Tools 6.x setup and general troubleshooting at the top of this Pro Tools LE for Mac forum. These suggestions and others are all there.

"Disk Utility" is in your Applications/Utilities folder, or use the Apple and F keys to find it.

The "Digidesign Databases" folder is on the root of all mounted drives. You can also do a Find on all mounted drives to find those. Drag them to the trash and empty the trash.

I little system info would help...

What OS version?
Which Mac?
How much ram?
What kind of drive (internal - external)?
Which Digi system?
What PTLE version?

Are you trying to open a specific session or just trying to launcing it by clicking on the actual PTLE icon (not an alias)?

Try uninstalling core audio?
And make sure Classic is not running?
Make sure the record drive is not set to "Journaled" (set in Disc Utility)?

Default Re: HELP PLS! Can not Start Pro Tools

thanks dk. here's the readout in Disk Utility:

Mac HD
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Permissions Enabled: Yes

GM Firewire (audio record drive)
Format: Mac OS Extended
Permissions Enabled: No

Is this correct?
Journaled and Permissions are OFF in the external LaCie drive. Should they be OFF on the Mac HD as well?
