Did anyone else notice the iLok auto sync when restarting Protools 2020.12.0 after installation. What did it do?

Other than that, everything seems to load and run ok for me. I'm happy that it retained the selected classic mode and did not revert to dark mode.

I was hoping for Big Sur support but we all know how far behind the curve Avid can be .... and often is.

interestingly, the Mac Read Me PDF for 2020.12 says it runs on macOS 10.16.x (“Big Sur”). but that is wrong. the version # for Big Sur is 11.x (not 10.16.x). and anyway the Pro Tools Operating System Compatibility Chart still says that it only runs on 10.13.x -> 10.15.x.

Maybe they are preparing the pdf for Big Sur, I mean, next release would be BIg Sur compatible.

Installed 2020.12 over 2020.11 and opened without problems, but when I try to load a project all of the tracks load, and then I get an ERROR - "Access Violation - could not read location" followed by a string of zeros. Tried a different project, thinking something was befouled - same result. Finally did a Windows Restore back to 4 days prior and I am back on Ver 2020.11 and everything works fine. No change in any other parameters or programs. Running Windows 10 64 bit with adequate disk space and 32 GB of RAM.

On Windows, it's recommended that you clean uninstall the old Pro Tools, reboot, then install the new Pro Tools. Personally I also run CCleaner's Registry option until it runs "clear" with no new issues, saving the Registry file every time.

I also wouldn't rely om System Restore. I use Macrium Reflect, but there are others available. I make an image backup nightly, keeping a rolling three nights of images, and before any install/uninstall/update/upgrade.

Interesting. I have never done that in many years of upgrades and this is the first problem I have ever had. I don't expect a reply from AVID for at least 2-3 days, but will let you know what they say. Otherwise will give this a try.

Agreed. I've never clean installed a new version and have had no issues.

Although installing over an existing version of Protools often works, there are many documented instances where this has yielded problems for many. It is usually recommended to do as clean an install as possible to avoid these unexpected but prevalent issues. It is also one of the first troubleshooting steps recommended by everyone, so you may save yourself the trouble by doing that to begin with. SSD's are relativly inexpensive, so having a second drive to make an image backup before any upgrade is recommended. With a good backup strategy, you may continue to try installing over an existing version, since you can always get back to where you were before upgrading. If it works, great. If it has issues, you can proceed to do a clean install—format drive, install OS (test), install Protools (test), install plugins/virtual instruments (test), install any other software (test), etc. (test), Make another working backup of the upgraded system.
