If you got that right, then I'm going to find a "finger frequency" on the bass track, starting point 2kHz, and the bite frequenct on the kick track, starting point 7kHz. Nice boost there and blend to taste.

And then I grab a compressor if I need to

I know this is a blanket statement, but I always tend to want to set the bass track comp threshold to 50ms. Kick track depends on whether you want more bottom or snap

This doesn't seem like a dumb subject to me as I hear many Mixes where the Bass doesn't sit well with the Kick in the Mix.

Is it random trial & error, luck or is there a tecnique?
If you're listening to commercial mixes and the bass and kick don't sound right in a lot of them then maybe there is an issue with your monitoring/room?

If you're monitoring isn't sorted, (and problems usually start at the bottom!) then getting the bass and kick right is a loosing battle IMO.

I'm not necessarily talking about my room. Car Radios, CD's & different Sound Systems.

It's not the System it's the Recording. I listen to many genres from the 50's til now. Some are fantastic & some are horrible. From all years.

The House is only as good as the Foundation. Bass & Kick are the Foundation.

I'm hoping to get as close as possible to the fantastic side.

I know I can always learn something new & that is why I'm glad for so many of you to share your Tips & Techniques.

Thanks
