But these specific -9173 errors have been a plague for quite some time now and after all those tests and error logs sent in to Avid I thought that they would addressed by now. Obviously they aren't so ... still there 12.6 HD for us on 10.11.6 and 10.10.5

What pressure created? I'd argue that this massively relieved them from pressure to deliver added value.

Formerly people could decide wether to purchase a given new release, and bugfix releases were free of cost. Now, you have to pay constantly to receive even just product defect fixes and if you let your upgrade plan subscription run out, you'll get punished big time ($$$). So most people will keep on feeding them in hope "good things will come in next 12 months" hopefully.

Read Avid's SEC filings. The business plan was to create a steady incoming cash flow without having the pressure to actually deliver added value because that made a lot of folks sit&wait and produce no revenue. They pretty much openly wrote this on one of the SEC filings.

And regarding listening to customers: they do. To the customers with huge post production plants. See their current blog post about 12.6. Given that just one(!) of those customers do more revenue than thousands(!) of PT vanilla music production customers togethers, it's not unexplicable where Avid's focus is.

Unfortunately also true. I believe that the devs do see the work they are putting out and that creates a rush for bug-fixes. But if they used some of the methods I spoke about, specifically in Flaw 8 it could help US help THEM.

Man I really hope no one feels "hurt" by this. Hopefully some of the solutions make sense.
I'm hoping we regain some user strength and balance in satisfaction.
Could be too much to ask-- at least the initial response from midnightrambler makes me feel it might not be possible.

The click issue is supposed to be fixed in 12.6

I believe it is fixed. That is a good thing.
But my issue is with the "gamble" some of us face when paying for renewals. Is it a justifiable "gamble" ? -- I don't know, I guess we as the user should decide.
But should we be put in this position.

I pose a scenario:
Person 1 renews from January 1st until January 1st next year. $100
Person 2 renews from March 1st until March 1st next year. $100

Person 1 has 12 months of bug-free releases.
Person 2 has 10 months of bug-free releases, January 15th and February 20th (of next year) both introduce bugs that completely make Pro Tools useless.
Also, Person 2 has to put in a ticket just to get the previous releases to rollback and open sessions. Time and money lost.

Was each persons' $100 dollars the same? Did it prove to give or take from the user? These ambiguities should force Avid to create practical concessions for their failures.

There is too much subjectivity in this set of methodologies.

Why does person 2 have to submit a ticket? Why is that person not saving each downloaded installer? Also, why is person 2 not cloning or imaging their system before any upgrade?

Unfortunately that is a new practice everyone is doing now. Because they stopped displaying the previous releases.
But many people don't save installers because most people don't have to deal with companies that hide their releases.

Let us remove the submission of the ticket and the rollback completely.

Are both renewals worth the same $100?
Did one user suffer a loss? time, money, anything?
If you say none of the above. Avid and its methodologies are the only company where you'd allow this to happen.
You would never allow a car dealer to give you a faulty car.
You would never allow a Tesla software update to stop your brakes from working.
You would never allow a restaurant to give you dirty food.
On and on and on...
Somehow we have accepted these faults from Avid. I find it very interesting.

New practice?

I've been running a separate system disk with the previous OS and application versions for twenty years. We always had spare console modules and a spare 24 track machine too.
