Mac mini (Late 2012)
Intel Core i7-3615QM 2300 MHz (4 cores)…………2683

Mac mini (Late 2014)
Intel Core i5-4260U 1400 MHz (2 cores)…………..2538

Hmm almost identical yet its….. i7 2.3ghz 4core and i5 1.4ghz 2core.

Yes - I'm also surprised how fast the i5-4260U 1400 MHz is in the single core benchmarks.
However, the 32-bit multi-core benchmarks show a large difference:

Mac mini (Late 2012)
Intel Core i7-3615QM 2300 MHz (4 cores)..........10398

Mac mini (Late 2014)
Intel Core i5-4260U 1400 MHz (2 cores).............4757

You know i didnt even see the tabs for cores
Just thought it was an all i one benchmark, explains it now

For the use with Pro Tools 11 the article is saying it clearly... the 2012 i7 Quad.
Whoever still may want to use a Mini with PT11 should hurry up actually as these
are sold out at most of the stores already (as new units)!
