Hi Guys,

Just bumping this post. I'm thinking of a Dual 1 Gig soon and just wondering if Kenn LeGault has any more news from Apple to report.

Cheers

I've been using HD3 with a dual 1Gig for about a month now. I got occasional -6042 errors until I removed the mulitprocessing folder, and I haven't had one since.

In fact, since resolving that issue and assigning 200MB to the ProTools application I haven't had a single error or lockup (knock knock). I'm using the rig about 40 hours a week.

Good luck,

Jeff D.

Thanks Jeff.

A reasonably reliable little birdy suggested to me today that it might be worth getting a Dual 1 Gig as the advent of Digidesigns inevitable OS10 support and PT V6.?? later in the year might yield some useful results for dual owners and depending on who you believe, a new dual machine might not be part of the next wave of "speed bump" type upgrades that Apple issue until the G5 or what ever is next comes along.

Oh, the rumour mill tires me out you know. It's all a bit too X Files man! I wish the boys and girls at Digi could tell us something.

Cheers all.

All I know is, I've bought every upgrade, hardware & soft since pre PT 2.0, but I stop here. Until Digi & Apple can work out this dual processor b.s., I've had it. I just spend a lot of money on a dual 1gig with all the trimmings, and until Digi learns how to use that power, screw it. They can make me cripple my machine, but they can't sell me HD. Sad, too, because I'd like to have it, but I can't help but feel like we're being hosed. Other companies can make use of it--what's wrong with Digi?

Cat got your tongue??

In fact, Digi, give us a name at Apple to hassle about this and we'll shame the tosser into getting his sorry arse act together!!

Power to the people (who pay all your wages don't forget)!!

There have been many recent negotiations with Apple, and we believe we are very close to getting a patch.

Once we get the patch (we have not been able to evaluate it for ourselves yet), we will do thorough testing, and then announce plans for it's distribution, installation, and use (assuming it works as we expect and fixes the PCI performance problems with DP machines).

We have not posted any information on the DUC because we simply don't have solid dates. We have some "promises" from Apple, but it is premature to announce anything until Digidesign actually receives the new code from Apple, and until we've had a chance to try it out.

Please be patient. We have not lost track of this issue (I worry about it every day).

Best Regards,
Kenn LeGault

Kenn,

Thanks mate. That's all we need to know. I am on the verge of buying three new computers (End of June upgrade etc..) so I need some info double quick on whether a Dual is the way to go for me.

Any snippets of info on what capability we can expect? I sure could do with saving the £500.00 X 3 required to buy DP's if we aint gonna get much for our perseverance. (I could buy more HD process cards for instance!!).

Is there an Apple email address we can write to (politely of course) to let Apple know how important this is to so many of their customers??

As an aside. Being a Digidesign employee as you are, I am mightily heartened by your simple and honest answers to our questions as YOUR customers. I dearly wish some others in your building (who shall remain nameless) had as good an attitude as you. It just gives us soldiers in the feild that "feelgood" factor that helps us keep the faith.

Cheers.

Steve Bush
