The problem is actually "Midi Merge". When Loop Record is turned on, Midi Merge automatically turns off causing this issue.

Try this: Put record on normal and then turn Midi Merge off. Start recording or use Retro, you will get the same result.... no midi. Now, grab the empty midi clip and extend the end out around 10 bars. The midi notes you recorded will appear far ahead by a few bars.

The only workaround is not to use Loop Record for the moment.
I can confirm that is what happens... when i drag out the take i eventually find the midi data (in my case this was more than 10 bars). A far as i'm concerned that's not a workaround, its broken and defeats the only way to emulate an audio playlist workflow. When did you report it?

I´m having the same issue since 3 days ago, just out of the blue. It seems like retrospective record works, but is somehow delayed relative to the starting point of the session. If I play some midi at 1 minute and 30 seconds and hit Retrospective Record, the midi file will appear to be blank until I drag it out till it shows all the notes I played. Then I move the file back 1 min 30 sec, and it will be where I originally played the part. If I play something at 3 minutes 43 secs, I´ll have to do the same and move it back 3 min 43 secs. If I start at the exact beginning of the session, it´s in sync. Sure hope there will be a fix for this very soon

I reported it less than a week ago and was confirmed and logged, meaning a fix will come soon.

Yes, a shame Loop Record is not working correctly as I too use it quite a lot.

I just wasted a few hours trying various ways to do loop recording on an instrument track using PT 2019.12 in Windows 10. I experimented with every configuration I could think of but similar to dcoffset I found that loop recording would only work if starting from the first bar. Obviously, not helpful at all. I just discovered this thread and was hoping someone may have found a solution over the past two months.

Can you not update to PT 2020? The bug is supposedly fixed there

I just checked the Read Me document for Pro Tools 2020.3 and it does appear that this may be addressed with that release. I will update tomorrow (although the latest version is now 2020.5 in my Avid Account. Thanks.

I installed PT 2020.5 and so far the midi loop recording seems to be working as it should.
