Default 7.3 update or upgrade?

I just purchased Pro tools 7.1 m-powered so I'm lucky I get a free update. Is this considered a major update? I think it's kind of ridiculous that there is only a one-month grace period for free updates.

Is this normally how things are done with digidesign products? If there is a 7.5 update will I most likely have to pay $50 for that?

What about version 8 when its released? Is that going to be a $100-150 upgrade fee? I only paid $200 for 7.1... a 50-75% upgrade price seems unfair.

Think of it in the context of a Microsoft upgrade.

LOL!

i don't know about other people on this board, but as for me, i'm not upgrading until all of the issues have been worked out.

i have a nice stable system using 7.1cs10 - and i have seen a lot of posts lately that the download isn't working, people having trouble installing 7.3, etc.

so until the smoke clears, i'm going to sit back and just enjoy 7.1

Not a bad idea.

I on the other hand went to the link posted pointing
to the M-Audio site, paid my $49 and downloaded.

The steps I posted are what "I" did to get a clean,
no issue install.

I did find "one" weird thing happen tho PT-M 7.3
unrelated I think.

After my clean install of 7.3 I installed both the
STRIKE! update and the 7.3 Productivity Toolkit update.

When I launched the PT-M and loaded the last project I
was working, which had STRIKE! in it, my the drum tracks
very palying WAY out of time than previously. So I closed
the seesion, reopenned it and hit "Play"...everything was fine.

Go figya'
