Problems importing old ProTools files
A long time ago, I recorded a bunch of songs using a Digi 001 on an ancient Mac using what I assume was ProTools 5 or 6 (this was in 2006). I copied the folders over from that machine verbatim, so I have folders with contents like: Audio Files (folder), Fade Files (folder), and SongName.bin. Inside the Audio Files folder are the regions I remember working with, but with no file extension.
I cannot for the life of me get ProTools to recognize that .bin file, nor to do anything with the audio files. ProTools will not import the .bin. I still have the original bounces that I made, but now that I have my own copy of ProTools (10 - Windows), I would like to remix/master these old files. I was also unable to get these files to import into ProTools 7 HD and ProTools 8 LE. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to import these files? |

Re: Problems importing old ProTools files
you probably were working with SD2 audio files, they don't like FAT/NTFS disks, strips the resource fork
and you probably weren't saving the session with PC compatibility on probable your easy fix is to find someone close with a Mac rig to open and convert your original files

Re: Problems importing old ProTools files
Actually, the ProTools 7 HD and the ProTools 8 LE rigs were both Macs, but that is long after I had moved them to a PC. I have the original Zip disks that I transferred the files with, but I don't know if I could find a machine with a parallel port anymore.

Re: Problems importing old ProTools files
I may be able to help you recover them. The problem though is that Pro Tools never worked with .bin files. So why your supposed session files are .bin is a huge mystery.
You can start by following the instructions in my video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtcWi...Fp5mdYyIwLRgfw If that doesn't work, contact me through my moniker and we can arrange your sending me one of these supposed session files and I'll let you know if it appears that they can be recovered.

Re: Problems importing old ProTools files
Did you try to make a copy of the session file and change the .bin suffix to .ptf on the copy? Maybe you end up with at least a readable session file that way.
