Hardware is needed because our plugins run synchronously on our dedicated DSP chips. This allows very low latency operation on live inputs regardless of buffer size.

They also run asynchronously in your DAW augmenting your CPU.

As powerful as computers get, CPU+DSP will always be more powerful than CPU alone.
Can I add a UAD-2 PCIE DSP (or UAD-2 SATELLITE) to my HDX System - are the two compatible?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

We see Apollo X (with its surround monitoring support shipping VERY soon) and plugins like the DFC (along with all our other excellent plugins) as an amazing interface/monitor controller for all sorts of post rooms/applications.

In a word “yes”

I run with both of those, both the satellite and the internal PCIE card (and the HDX)
