Default Losing screen estate when resizing tracks?

It's been here for a long time I guess, but it really starts to annoy me by now: why am I losing valuable screen estate when sizing my tracks to fit the window?
I mean: I can see them alright, but one flick of the mouse wheel makes the edit window scroll for no reason. Checked with the screen resolution, but that's not it. Anyone else noticing this?

I guess I don't understand the problem - sounds like it's working as designed.

I understand it does not look like much of a problem, but what happens is that when I want to resize my tracks to take full advantage of my screen, I get the slider that indicates something is 'not in view' so to say, but in fact it is: watch the screenshot (or try it yourself) to see what I mean.
What's really annoying is not the slider, but the mouse-wheel: when accidentally scrolled, it moves my the contents of my edit-window up & down for no reason.

I'm on Windows and both of those "issues" you describe have been happening for some time. The gray area at the bottom has been there through many updates/upgrades as has the scroll bar movement when using just the mouse wheel rather than Ctrl+Scroll.

This is normal for PT since at least PT10 and maybe earlier (I'm on a Mac).

Might be normal, but I rather have software 'useful'...

PT is still useful you just have to learn/know how to work with it and it's oddities. I've long ago realized I'd just be banging my head into the wall if I worried about every little thing PT does different than any other daw. None of them is perfect so you make do with what works.

I have been working with Pro Tools since it was invented, so i'ts not comparing or complaining in general. Just a feature I cannot see use for 9if it is a feature at all).
