Default Best way to create mono tracks?

I was sent a session to mix and all the wavs are stereo files, everything all the vocals and every instrument?

Would you make the drums and vocals mono before mixing?

If so what is the best way, and what about the tracks that have a little pan information?

Thanks

Make 2 mono tracks and drag your stereo track down to the 2 mono tracks. Pan 'em both center. But watch that this doesn't cause any phase cancellation.
Mono vocal yes. There's no reason to have a stereo vocal track, and you can actually just use one channel on a mono track. Mono drums, absolutely not. I'll usually put the kick and snare in the middle but pan everything else to give it some dimension.

Yep. Unless you're going to l-r pan them and process each track differently for a stereo effect.

1 Select the multichannel track.

2 Choose Track > Split Into Mono. You can also right-click selected track(s) and choose Split Into Mono.

Always before splitting to mono, make sure that the audio isn't actually stereo. The simple way to do this is to visually compare the left and right waveform. If they are identical, then it is most likely a mono sound that was summed to stereo. If the left and right look different or are different sizes, then that could mean that there was a stereo affect applied to the audio, the original owner panned the sound before summing, or it is just a stereo sound. Use your judgement. If both channels look and sound completely identical, it's safe to split to mono and discard one of the channels. I usually just make the ones I don't need inactive instead of deleting anything.
