HI, I purchased 2, M-Audio BX8 for that price. I use them for my main monitors in my home studio. To me these things sound amazing!!!. Every range comes through crystal clear even when pushed hard!!! They are self powered and have different adjustments on back according to what acoustics your looking for and room ambience. I would buy them over again today but thats just my opinion. Check em out.

Try the Alesis M1 Active 520 & 620's ! They're excellent and a great value. I use the 620's and love them.

I recently installed an M-Box 2 Pro system at a junior high school -- they like it so much they're adding 2-3 more workstations for the kids. However, at the moment they're monitoring everything through headphones and are looking to add a pair of monitors to one of the workstations to make it the master unit. I've been helping them in their search and found the Blue Sky EXO (2.1 system) to be very attractive.

While they retail for around $350, a bit higher than the $300, they seem to have a few advantages over traditional monitoring (2 speaker) systems: The satellite speakers are small, a plus for smaller desktops; the separate sub extends the range beyond traditional boxes; and he desktop gain control has a separate control for the sub as well as overall gain (I'm finding that these very young ears don't "hear" bass as well as more mature ears, so being able to remove or emphasize the lows is a plus for teaching...).

Just a thought...

Call me the odd man out, but my Behringer ADA8000 8 channel Adat digital mix pre was money well spent in my book. $240.00 and works like a charm. No noise, long tracking sessions, and absolutely no problems.

I know this piece isn't a set of monitors, but not everything Behringer is a pile of crap.

Again.. not the place.. other than to back up my position on the behringers.. I also had a behringer Ada8000, worked great till ups smashed the hell out of it. (no blame on behringer here) It was a great unit I used for years.. Total I have 3 pairs of the truths, 2 of the subs, the ada, and 3 headphone amps.. No problems with any of them... In fact.. Ive had to return more digi gear to get it fixed than behringer gear... And I've owned more behringer gear.. sooo..... Think about that...

The issue with behringer stuff for many people is the fact that they rip off the designs of other companies and produce cheap knockoffs with less quality control and virtually no R&D or design costs. If you're ok with "voting with your dollars" to support the company that doesn't really innovate rather than funding the development of the gear you make your living with, then go for it. I've bought some behringer stuff in the past and most of it was perfectly functional and it was ALL super cheap. Some of it was just cheap garbage made to look like the real-deal. I think of behringer stuff as about a quarter step above being pure counterfeit. If they made their mixers in the charcoal gray and their guitar stuff in red, you could sell it off a table on the street.

Ok - I'll put in my two cents:

I use a pair of "Fostex 6301 B"s. I LOVE them. They're clean, loud and crystal clear. I just bought a pair on eBay for $249.
