At some point, just like Buick brings out new models, the Icon will reach maturity. That said, I adore my D-Control. Works as well (or better) then the first day I got it. Truly the most integrated control surface I've ever used with Pro Tools. It's f*$&)@g brilliant :)

I absolutely love my D-Control 32 too. Revolutionary product!

But remember back to the Pro Tools 7 days where every dot release software update brought great changes to the ICON? The updates - even small fixes - have dried up in recent years.

There's still lots of little fixable known bugs that could be dealt with but haven't been. That scares me a little, though maybe Pro Tools 11 could roll in some of that stuff.

I guess the reality is, the unit debuted in 2004 so sadly it's gotta be nearing the end of the line. Having said that, nothing on the market comes near it as a Pro Tools controller.

I think it's safe to say that with avid refocusing on the pro market (as they sold off m-audio) that there will either be new updates or new boards coming out for us. That being said, The blue icons came out on the market in 2004 but the updated Icon Es models came out in 2007.

I also have my finger on the trigger for a D-Command, coming from the ProControl surface I have been using for so long. The ES came out in 2007 but nothing really changed on it except for the color scheme. That reminds me of BMW - new body style and then every year it gets a tail light tweak here, a headlight tweak there and then an all new body style comes out and you know you're safe for 5 years or so. I just get that creeping feeling that I'll get the d-command in Feb or March and then Avid will announce a revolutionary new control surface in June or September. I'd hate to vomit on my new console. :)

Actually few things did. Out of memory, added carbon faders, the plugin, aux, ins/out routing matrix was introduce then.. and there was other things, but I don't remember what exactly was introduced at that time.

Well... I believe there are rumors for a new Avid controller / console end of this year. Logically, I would expect a new kind of D-Control with the best of System 5 integrated, like channel views.

They are certainly way overdue for a new generation. I would speculate that it's waiting for Pro tools 11 or Pro Tools 11 is waiting for it.

No I hope it's a new system 5 MC with the best of the icon in it.
