Default Macbook Pro / OS X 10.8.1 / Mbox 2 (2nd gen) / Logic Pro 9

I purchased a new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1 last week and installed Logic Pro 9. Plugged in my Mbox 2 (2nd gen), no lights. Found the latest Mbox 2 driver and installed it, http://secure.digidesign.com/service...&localeCode=en, the system recognized the Mbox 2 and the lights turned on. I then changed the sound settings both in System Preferences and Logic Preferences so the Input and Output devices were both Digidesign Mbox 2. Plugged in microphones and tried Midi and the result is the same; only sound from the speakers are cracks and pops.

I assume that the latest Mbox 2 driver is not has not caught up with the most recent release of Mountain Lion 10.8.1. Before I spend $600 on a new interface that is worthwhile, I wanted to see if anyone in recording land has any insight.

Thanks in advance...

you are 100% right
there are no drivers for the second generation compatible with 10.8

i went to buy a focusrite 2i2. it works straight outta the box.

avid is horribly slow when it comes to updating drivers even if the software/hardware they produce is good.

never avid again but thanks for all these years
