Default Converting to MP3

Hello all, I am new to this forum so I'm sure that this is an newbie question, but I have digi 003 and Pro Tools 7.4 and when I try to bounce to disk, and I change the format from wav to mp3 I get an error message that says I don't have that option. I thought that converting to mp3 was just part of Protools, is it not? and if so how do I get that option? Someone Please help...!!! Thanks

The mp3 option is $20.00 at the Digi store.
That said, why anyone would want to bounce to mp3 is beyond me.
Better to bouce to wav, then convert it to mp3, which takes about 7 seconds.

Could not agree more. Both Windows Media Player and iTunes can do the conversion.

I'm with that... I've had the MP3 option for years and never once used it. If i need an MP3, It is always a copy of a compressed Wave file using Sound Forge.

Ok thanks guys... so now I know not to waste money on that feature. However I do have Windows Media Player, so does anyone have instructions or where I can get instructions on converting my wav files to mp3?

Why are you guys so against bouncing to MP3 right from PT? It saves a lot of work if you just want to bounce a mix "in progress" to listen to as you're working. Why take two steps to do what should happen in one?

Because if you bounce to wav, then you have that file too, it's better quality than mp3, thus a better reference.
Bouncing to mp3 actually WASTES time, IMO, as the bounce is real time.
Converting a wav to mp3 is hardly "a lot of work."
It takes 4 seconds.

Its sometimes necessary to have an MP3 to have small files to transfer for others to listen while you are working. No need or use for a real quality bounce yet so doing so is a waste at that time. The MP3 option is only $20 and when needed is very convenient. I got sick of bouncing out a wave just to convert it to an MP3 when I was only needing the small MP3 file.

Fair enough. I've never bounced to mp3, and I have the option.
Heck, maybe I'll start, just to get my 20 bux worth.
