Outboard with 003
I'm looking at getting some outboard but my main concern is will there be latency/phasing issues because I'm using LE? I have a 003 rack, with a G5 dual 2GB with 1.5GB ram. I want to know that if I record something like vocals, and later decide to put it through an outboard compressor and run it back into Tools, will it actually be usable, or will there be too much latency to bother with. I know it will work fine if I use the outboard during tracking, but for use with FX or anything else I'd want to do that in mixing...
Thanks |

Re: Outboard with 003
Yeah.. there will be latency, but can be cured by either using the time adjuster delays on all the other tracks or by shifting the vocal track back by the same amount in samples I find is best. To measure the difference run a click through the outboard and also one direct through the 003, keep shifting the delayed (outboard) signal back until bingo they phase each other. Of course do this in mono. Hope that helps.
I have to say if anyone else is listening, my old 001 system was far more efficient when running outboard than the 003... any further threads on this. |
