iMac 18.2, 2017, 21.5", 8gb ram only?
System requrements says specifically 16gb memory required. The mac itself is supported.
I'm just wondering; does it mean it won't run PT at all, or will it be able to run light sessions? Anyone? |

OK. Thanx.
So it will run. That's really all I wanted to know. |

No problem. Let us know what kind of sessions you can run with it

I want to see if I can open old PT 5-6-8 or ten sessions on my 2017 imac Catalina. It's pretty capable, judging from Lightroom performance and such. I expect latest PT will open them?

As long as they are NOT in SD II format

Yea? Why is that? PT 10 would open and convert them. Why would that not be the case with 11-12-20? Just stupidity?

PT10 is last to open SD2, that format never made it into 64bit

Re: iMac 18.2, 2017, 21.5", 8gb ram only?
Update:
I'm running 2020.3 on this imac 18.2 Catalina 10.15.4 and it's looking great. I'm even using a old m-audio M-track interface, officially unsupported, and I can even switch between other apps like Amadeus pro, quicktime player, Music, and anything, and they share the interface seamlessly with PT! No customisation necessary, automatic sleep on, spotlight, no problem. RAM filling up quickly it seems, though PT says 90% used, while Activity Monitor says 60%. CPU; PT says 2% amd ActMon says 50-60. This is with a 30 track session w/audio tracks and few Pis. I've never seen PT integrate so well before. Of course, this will be not a very powerful system, but it seems to be enough for my needs, and if I can have PT just melt in on my day-to-day mac without any special care, I'll be more than happy. And I'll get a better sounding interface soon. |
