[OT] Hard disk encryption and watermarking
Hi, there are rumors about a CD from the current Rolling Stones sessions circulating on peer-to-peer to which some people replied that this is impossible because for security reasons.
They mention recording to hard disks which are password protected as well as data watermarking. All people working on the album have their own password to access the data and if any track is leaked, then it will be possible to know who has leaked it, thanks to watermarking. As they are working once again with Don Was, I believe they are using Pro Tools TDM on Mac OS. Maybe they are working with a SAN bay for data storage. Or is using mobile hard disks (firewire) a common practice these days in recording studios ? I would think that using SAN bays is much more reliable. Has any of you heard of or used such technologies ? Do you know any product which is well spread for this purpose ? Does the encryption add much overhead for disk access performance ? |
