Well yes, but afaik no one had come up with a reproducible recipe before.

For us, this bug has been predictable in certain cases for a couple of years, and it's why we haven't, and still don't, place MIDI onto Instrument tracks. That and the fact that it's still a somewhat clunky function in PT. Logic has it figured out.

I agree. This is a long outstanding bug that I have seen since at least Pro Tools 8. Frustrating when it happens, but must be hard to fix because it is so unpredictable and only happens some times.

It shouldn't be hard to fix. The problem is that the VI which is on the Instrument track takes too long to load and so the MIDI shows up but without a destination, and then it's greyed out. Forcing the MIDI to wait until after the rest of the channel is instantiated would fix it. That might be an overly-simplistic version of what's happening but it's not far off, and we know that other DAWs have it figured out.

Ya. Same as the others, I've seen this issue for years. It's a pain when you have a 600 track composing template and need to find the problem track

Well actually in this particular variant of the bug (dragging MIDI) the MIDI port info gets corrupted even before the session is saved, but I don’t doubt there are other reasons for MIDI ports to get lost too.

FWIW a workaround I've been using lately:

If you drag the MIDI files onto a "dummy" MIDI or instrument track, and then move the data onto the correct track, no ports are lost.

Similar to above, I usually just make a copy of the track and the new copy comes to life. I've had this problem ever since I started on PT9.
