You can use automator in case there is lot's of audio files
These files don't have the sd2 extension -- they have no extension at all.

I did. It didn't work.

But there's a slight wrinkle now that I've thought more about it. These older sessions I was toying with were pulled from a Google Drive backup, which, I assume, introduces the issues with resource forks which Windows machines cause. I went to the original session, on the original computer, and tried again. After changing the extension to .pts the session opened right up.

Yes, you are correct. If the files are anywhere else than HFS/APFS the resource fork gets lost. Unless you zip it first.
