These files don't have the sd2 extension -- they have no extension at all.

I did. It didn't work.
But there's a slight wrinkle now that I've thought more about it. These older sessions I was toying with were pulled from a Google Drive backup, which, I assume, introduces the issues with resource forks which Windows machines cause. I went to the original session, on the original computer, and tried again. After changing the extension to .pts the session opened right up. |

Yes, you are correct. If the files are anywhere else than HFS/APFS the resource fork gets lost. Unless you zip it first.
