Does the solo button simply not "physically" work? Or do you mean you can't hear anything when you press solo?

If the latter, check your Solo Path in I/O Setup.

as soon as i route a channel to an stereo aux track i lose the ability to solo anything. The aux track won't solo either.I don't see anything about solo in the I/O setup. The solo button actually mutes the tracks for some reason

If you route a track to an aux, the way to solo the track is to solo safe the aux (cmd+click on a mac), then solo the desired track that is routed to that aux.
You cannot solo an aux itself alone, you'd need a VCA group for that.

I don't quite understand, what you are trying to do and how you do it.
You say you want to add reverb to your backing vocals, sending them to an aux. So I guess you do that by using a send.
So what exactly are you trying to solo? The reverb alone?

Okay, so you want to send the aux to another aux to add reverb, right?
Nothing wrong with that then, and it should work, like I explained earlier.
If it doesn't, something's set up wrong. Can you post a screenshot of your mix window?
