Default Instrument Extension Pack vs Machfive 3 vs Komplete 7/8

Hello,

I would like to buy some new virtual instruments and sound bank for sound design, film music and music video games (8bit).

I hesitate between three things:
- MachFive 3
- Instrument Extension Pack
- Komplete 7 / 8

Komplete 7 I know but the others I do not know them at all.

Which is the best for me?

Thank you in advance!

I own the Instrument Expansion Pack and willing to sell it if you're interested ... (Western Union or Music Production Toolkit in return or any interesting plugin) Let me know if you're interested: [email protected]

Komplete 8 Ultimate is easily the best bang for the buck in the industry. Not only can you pretty much find or create any sound you can think of, it comes at a great price. It's not an orchestral library though, even though it's got some respectable orchestral and cinematic samples.

Komplete 8 is the way to go. You will find Kontakt indispensable once you get use to it. And there are tons of amazing libraries out there for Kontakt. FM8, Massive, Battery, Absynth - all amazing and very useful as well.

Another vote for Komplete. I haven't made the leap to Ultimate because I am waiting to see what IK does with the ST3 upgrade and perhaps upgrades for all their other VI's I have. I'm really hoping that this year is the year for IK VI's... It's been long enough already!!

I would only recommend IEP if you already have a complete arsenal of VI's that also come in VST format. IEP has some goodies, but it is only RTAS and just doesn't compare to something like Komplete 7 or 8 if you could only get one.

Also, take a look at EWQL Composer Collection. I've gotten a lot of use out of it. It comes loaded with sound design specific patches that are good alone or great for building custom patches. Also gotta love Symphonic Orchestra that comes with it.

Thanks for all your answers!

Komplete 8 Ultimate, Sample logic, Samproject, Vir2 seems good but I haven't enough money for it!

For the money I think I need a "beginner VI's Library" (I'm not professional). It's why I think of K8 (not Ultimate), MachFive 3 or IEP appear to be the best choice for me!

Do you know if in this video, they use "Structure" or "Structure East west symphonic edition"?

Because for me, the orchestral instruments are just I need for the moment.

Again, I would not recommend IEP for a beginner library. Overall it is not as versatile and vast as something like Komplete and is only RTAS, which could bite you later. IMO, IEP can be very useful as an add-on only after one has a healthy cross platform set of VIs.

The Structure video actually displays that the sounds being used are including with IEP. Just keep in mind that Structure is not 64 bit, but allows disk streaming for larger samples. If you are thinking about EWQL Symphonic Orchestra, then get the multi-format 64 bit version from EWQL.

Mach Five is Oooookay and I've seen guys create nice patches with it. The sampler is cool but the library is cheese compared to competitors and it can't even be compared to Komplete.

Just my two cents.

@Spenner:
Do you recommend me to buy Komplete 8 Ultimate than Komplete 8? And maybe wait a little?

In Komplete 7, I didn't like the four main piano (New York, Vienna, Berlin and Upright). It's why I really hesitate for K8!

I will say that Komplete 8 & Ultimate are hands down the best out there in terms of quantity, quailty, versatility, features, and bang for the buck. I don't think anyone can go wrong with them. They come in both VST and RTAS... This is important because based on your workflow for film music you may need a 64 bit VI VST Host, if not now, in the near future.

Pianos are so personal and come down to preference. I use Komplete's Classic Piano Collection the majority of the time. They are lean, very playable dynamic wise, and sound great for most projects. When the piano is the main focus I'll use Ivory (Structure nor Komplete pianos can compare there).

My overall point is technically a "beginner's VI Library" is included with Pro Tools (Xpand, Vacuum, Structure Free, etc.) So, you already have that. IMO Komplete 8 is the best of the VI's mentioned in your title, and Ultimate is ideal. I suggest building your VI arsenal around that, but that's just me.

Hi
Seems to me you are talking Apples and Oranges.

Luckily I own, the PTIEP, all of the EW Libraries, and M5 3.

PTIEP: Love Strike and Hybrid except that the AIR VI's start causing problems when you open up to many instances of the plug-ins.

Mach 5: I think it's a much more complex and deep sampler then Structure plus it comes with an awesome assortment of sounds.

East West: If you are looking for scoring it's great. got Platinum Orch, Symph Choirs, RA, SD2 etc.

If you are doing Orchestral Scores PTIEP won't help you.

I'm not big on the NI GUI's. I find them very PC as in a Windows type interface which I find very annoying. The VSL sounds included are limited.

I don't think there's one that does everything.

Good luck...in the end it all comes down to budget :-(

Mitch
