The following installation step failed: run preflight script for plug-in updates.
I am trying to install the software from a factory DVD I purchased from Musicians Friend with 003+...?
The error message I get is: The following installation step failed: run preflight script for plug-in updates. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. I have researched and troubleshooted this for two days with no luck. Any help would be very nice. Thanks. imac 24" intel, OS X 10.6.3, Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 |

You should not waste any time and call Musician's Friend and make them help you with this. If they don't, threaten to return the 003+. AVID dealers are supposed to be able to handle these kinds of support issues- we handle these kinds of problems every day : )

Re: The following installation step failed: run preflight script for plug-in updates.
I have contacted Musician's friend and I am waiting on a reply...I also looked into Avid Support but they will not help until pro Tools is registered. Why would I register software that I cannot install?
Let me fill everyone in on the rest of the story here. Before I purchased the 003+ Pro Tools 9 bundle I meticulously went over my system and the system requirements for Pro Tools 8. This involved buying a new operating system and more ram for the imac as well as verifying the Intel processor. When the software install failed I went back and reinstalled Snow leopard and did not update it. I ran Disk Utlility and verified the disk as well as repaired disk preferences and made sure the disk indexing was journaled. Here is the crazy part: The first Digi 003 rack + factory bundle I got from Musicians Friend was missing the Pro Tools software! I had carved out time to install the system just to be stuck waiting for another unit. So the next unit comes and I notice it was shipped with an outer box. I open the box and one corner of the 003+ box is mangled like a dog chewed on it. Not joking. The whole corner of the box was gone. So far my first impression with Pro Tools is a nightmare. Makes my old Sonar rig seem like a better choice. Once again the error I get when I try to install is: The following installation step failed: run preflight script for plug-in updates. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Any help would be great thanks. |

Re: The following installation step failed: run preflight script for plug-in updates.
This does not sound like an AVID issue as much as a Musician's Friend issue. They are not being your 'friend' here- it sounds like they are trying to pass off old warehouse stock or a return as new product at a new product price. I would just return it at this point and start over with someone that can sell you new product and who can properly support it. Musician's Friend is not really the kind of place that can support a complex digital audio workstation anyway.
