Default PT8 lowers FTU sample rate to 44.1

I am unable to create a new PT session with 88.2 sample rate. Even though the Fast track ultra is set up the way I want it before PT is launched, when the app opens up it lowers the rate to 44.1 then tells me I can't change it while the app is streaming. I have tried everything I can think of to set up an 88.2 session. What is the trick to this?

2 things -
Make sure there are no other programs using the Fast track, such as iTunes.
Check the Ultra mixer, check that the sync is set to internal, not spdif.

Thank you for your suggestions, but they have done no good. The Fast Track Ultra works fine in 88.2 with WaveLab, but not with ProTools. Is there anybody who knows if there are some settings that will get it to work with ProTools at 88.2. That is the sample rate I use for all my sessions. I have been through the optimizations and my machine is a very powerful workstation. There must be some tribal knowledge as to how to do this. I can't imagine the FTU being able to do 88.2 with other apps but not with ProTools M-Powered. The FTU manual does not talk about it at all.

Is there nobody from Digidesign monitoring these posts? Does PT8 M-Powered do any other sample rate than 44.1 with the Fast Track Ultra? The FTU will do 96Khz with my other applications.

LE guy here and I dont have an FT Ultra so take this with a grain of salt.

What's your playback buffer set to? you might try increasing or decreasing it. In LE theres a relationship between the minimum buffer size and the sample rate. Not all Sample rates are available at all buffer settings.

FYI
I submitted a help request to M-audio and found the answer. The Fast Track Ultra cannot be set as the default device in the Windows Sound Devices. This issue and resolution should be noted in an easy to find place so others don't have the same aggravation as I suffered.

I only ever knew the Accelerated videos existed.

And it should run on "Flash". Don't want no stinking "Quicktime" on my machine.
Pro Tools requires Quicktime to run also.
