It really is only a slight variant of DBK's July 2020 build (upgraded CPU and RAM). This replaces my old but, before canabalizing, still running GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3, i7-3820 build from late 2012 (yes, I was way overdue for an update...):

CPU:
i9-10900K

Motherboard:
GIGABYTE Z490 VISION D

CPU Cooler:
Noctua NH-D15 SSO2

RAM:
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 128GB (4 x 32GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800)

GPU:
ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (reused from my last build)

Storage:
SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 500GB PCIe NVMe (System)
SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe (Audio/Session)
SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe (Samples)
SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 1TB SATA III SSD (Data)
SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 1TB SATA III SSD (Utility/Downloads)
Seagate BarraCuda 1TB 7200 RPM SATA HDD (Session Backup, reused from my last build)

PSU:
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G5, 80 Plus Gold 750W

Case:
Fractal Design Define 7 E-ATX Silent Modular

The build went as smooth as silk, it is stable and screams, and I haven't even had a chance to overclock it yet. As it is it is huge overkill for my modest demands, but considering the length of time I plan to use it I thought I'd future-proof as much as practicable. If anyone has questions please let me know. Great job!!!

Hi guys,

just to share a succesful build. I'll leave the link with the list I made in PCPartPicker so you can see the components and have a price reference as well.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XhYN7X

It runs extremely well, I had no problems running a big session with lots of VIs and mixing plugins in 64 samples.

Just make sure if you want to use a PCIe Gen 4 M.2 drive that the drive doesn't have a heatsink, otherwise you might have some cleareance issues do to the wifi card being underneath it in that specific motherboard. That's the problem I'm having with the one on the list, but I just removed the copper heatsink and installed it.

Cheers

Cool. Do you think 32GB RAM is enough?

Hi EGS, I do mostly recording, mixing and mastering, really don't need 64gb for now, but for sequencing and composing you might need to consider higher amount of RAM.

What are you using for a video card?

The integrated graphic card. I've tried the Creation Station from Sweetwater with the same integrated graphics and they perform well with Pro Tools, so I went with that and no regrets, runs smooth.

My box is a little older; i9-9900K in a Gigabyte z390 Designare MB. I went with 64Gb because I could and have never had a RAM related issue with this machine, overall it rocks. I recently reinstalled Win 10 Pro (ran MacOS Mojave for a year) and there were some issues with Windows Update and my version of PT (2019.12 Ultimate), I finally got it turned off, running smoothly now! The more RAM the better. I'd do 128Gb if prices dropped enough.

Hello guys, long time windows user of Pro Tools. After several years of using the same computer is time for a change. Catching up these days with computer tech development and Pro Tools. Any of you guys had some luck with the new i911900K and the new Z590 chipset? Which would you say are the best build options for 2021?
Regards
