Just wiped 12.5 and loaded 12.4. Same exact session now works perfectly. 12.5 certainly has issues. It's a shame since all the PT12 updates have been working pretty good so far.

Have to admit that now for me, 12.4 HD is running brilliantly. I was having major video engine errors in 12 - 12.3 that were making life difficult but these seem to have gone away for now.

Things to note:- The Editorial department I am supplied with pictures by have shifted to a more current version of Media Composer (8.3) and this has resulted in better quality DNxHD pics that do not seem to freeze on my setup (Mac Pro 5,1 and Mojo DX video interface) anymore. (Pictures from last year's show made with an earlier version of MC still exhibit the freeze in 12.4 though).

Now that things are solid in picture playback, I'm reluctant to go to 12.5 with the reports I hear around this thread. 12.4 has never crashed on my system either.

From what I've seen the video engine in 12.5 got better, at least according to the list of fixes. I ran several hours on my first day with it, compiling and assembling together a new project. Then I started editing. Something is so wrong with 12.5 that I cannot use it for real work. Seems like it crashes easily when using a trim tool. If I am doing editing, which is every day, I cannot work long enough to troubleshoot before the next crash. I've tried on 3 different days to use 12.5 and have reverted to 12.4 each time. I have removed all plugs but stock and a few essential plugins that are all current. Makes no difference, so if it is a plugin problem, I don't care, I refuse to work without them.

Skip 12.5.

I gave 12.5 one more chance today and, just as before, it ran very smoothly until I started editing. Scrub-trim is very unreliable with video. I do not have a 100% repeatable formula but wihtout video I have not had a freeze. With DNx video enabled it is an invitation for a pizza wheel freeze. PT becomes unresponsive and must be force-quit. Very easy to demonstrate here. Does not happen with a new session with one track and no plugins. Does happen when tracks from a big session are imported. My guess is a plugin problem.

Plugins from this session are stock EQ3, Pro Limiter, Revibe, ReverbOne, Sonnox EQ, Sonnox Dynamics, McDSP MC4000, CedarDNSaax, and a few AudioSuite processes from RX5Advanced. All versions are the most recent.

I'm going back to 12.4 with no more time to troubleshoot, but I wanted to put this information out there.

Anyone having better luck with this? I'm having no end of these unrecoverable video engine errors over here. It doesn't seem to matter what the codec is, FWIW. I have a standard ATI Radeon 5770 card in my 2010 6-core 3.33 GHz, 16GB RAM Mac Pro running 10.11.3.

I used to have all kinds of other video engine problems before 12.5 which are gone now. All that's left is this hideous problem, but it's a beast and I can't figure out a reliable way to get around it. Sometimes if I start a session with the video engine disabled in preferences and enable it manually I can get it to work....

Did you ever find an answer to this? I'm having the exact same issue. Sessions that ran flawlessly before updating to 12.5 now report the same error you're citing. Maddening.

Here was Avid's response. I meant to post this. It seems OMF only related, not AAF...

"I found that we have identified an issue with OMF imports specific to version 12.5 and we have a bug open for it [PT-211723]. They are listing this one as fixed for the next Pro Tools release so please use 12.4.0 for now and update once we release the next version of the software."

I'm having a similar situation after upgrading to 12.5 I'm unable to open any of my previous sessions containing video, nor can i import video into a new session. I'm using only DNxHD, trying videos output from Media Composer & Mpeg Streamclip.

Finally, I rolled back to 12.4 and everything works there. It seems to me 12.5 has something seriously broken in the video engine and its more than just with OMF import. I didn't see anything on Ideascale about this yet, but I can post something there.

I rolled back all my systems to 12.4 - 12.5 very unstable on all three my Mac based (Yosemite) systems - freezing & crashing 3-4 times a day. 12.4 only once or twice a week.
